PARADE OF CHAMPIONS

Jul. 19, 2019

All ten Champions have been crowned, with the #1 seeds claiming 7 titles.  Read on to find out who the winners of this years playoffs are...

DIVISION 1

SAVAGES (1)

GM1

W 5-0 vs Whalers

GM2

W 5-1 vs Whalers

GM3

na

It really was no surprise to see the Savages come out on top in BHE's premiere division.  The two-time defending National Champs lost just 3 games all year, and when it came down to it...it wasn't even close.  Both the Savages and Whalers will be off to represent BHE at the National Championships in St. John's NFLD beginning August 6th.
PLAYOFF MVP

Mike Bradley - Savages - 2 gp, 2 wins, 0.970 save%, 0.50 goals against average

Bradley backstopped the Savages to a near perfect finals, allowing just 1 goal in the two games played.

DIVISION 2

TEAM PENDING (3)

GM1

L 8-4 vs Cobras

GM2

W 4-3 vs Cobras

GM3

W 3-2 vs Cobras

Team Pending was able to turn a .500 season into a division 2 championship.  Coming from the 3-seed, they would need three series wins in order to claim the title.  In their opening series, they dropped the opening game to Redline, before reeling off back-to-back wins to advance to the semi-finals versus the #2-seeded Bar South.  They made quick work of them, improving their win streak to 4, as they swept the series two straight.  In the finals against the Cobras, they once again found themselves down 1-0 in the series, dropping an 8-4 series opener.  Then in a must-win game 2 they trailed 2-1 with less than 8 minutes to go before rallying for three goals in a span of 5:34.  They closed out the series, and the championship, by jumping out to a 3-0 lead in game 3, and holding on for the 3-2 win.
PLAYOFF MVP

Blake Grainger - Team Pending - 7 gp, 6-13-19

Grainger, the divisions regular season scoring leader, continued his dominance in the post-season, taking home top-scoring honors there as well.

DIVISION 4

KILLER BEES (1)

GM1

W 4-0 vs Reapers

GM2

W 4-3 vs Reapers

GM3

na

It was the Killer Bees in division 4 from start to finish.  The clear cream-of-the-crop all season long, they were able to finish it off in convincing fashion, outscoring the #2 seeded Reapers 8-3 in the finals.
PLAYOFF MVP

Tayler Belcourt - Killer Bees - 3 gp, 5-1-6

Belcourt racked up 4 goals and an assist in the two-game finals versus the Reapers.  This included the series-clinching goal.

DIVISION 5

SHARKS (2)

GM1

L 3-2 vs Blobfish

GM2

W 3-1 vs Blobfish

GM3

W 1-0 forfeit vs Blobfish

This was a fishy final from start to finish.  The Blobfish swept their first series, took the first game of the finals, dropped the second, and then failed to show up for the third.  The Sharks rode a win-loss-win-loss-win pattern before getting the bonus victory.  An unsatisfying finish to the season...probably for both teams.
PLAYOFF MVP

Tyrel Spitzer - Sharks - 5 gp, 4-5-9

Spitzer led all scorers in the division 5 playoffs.

DIVISION 6

THE FARM TEAM (1)

GM1

W 6-3 vs Soldiers

GM2

W 5-3 vs Soldiers

GM3

na

It was a hokey-pokey season for The Farm Team, as they jumped into division 6 to start the season...then jumped out...jumped into division 4...jumped out...turned around and jumped back into division 6...and then won it.  In the playoffs, it wasn't even close, as they walked through unscathed, with a perfect 4-0 record, outscoring their two opponents 19-10 on the way.
PLAYOFF MVP

Pat Soucy - The Farm Team - 4 gp, 4-8-12

Soucy tore it up in the playoffs, piling up 12 points in the four games which included the series clinching goal in game 2 versus the Soldiers.

DIVISION 7

TEAM FERDA (3)

GM1

W 3-2 vs Snipers

GM2

W 6-4 vs Snipers

GM3

na

It was a battle of young versus old for the division 7 championship.  The Snipers are quite possibly BHE's most legendary team and despite an average age over 40, here they were, back in another division final.  Game 1 proved to be a battle, with Ferda forcing overtime with the clock down to just 1:51 remaining in regulation.   The overtime period was brief, as Matt Bennett ended it for Team Ferda one minute in.  Of note, Jake Bennett turned aside 46 of 48 shots in the win.  Game two was another grueling one.  The Snipers jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Ferda rallied back, scoring 3 times in under 4 minutes.  The Snipers tied it up 5 minutes into the second.  But back-to-back powerplay goals put Ferda up for good, giving the rookie team a championship in its very first season.
PLAYOFF MVP

Landon Lavalee - Team Ferda - 6 gp, 12-7-19

Lavalee dominated the division 7 playoffs, racking up 12 goals in 6 games, including 4 goals and 4 assists in the finals.

DIVISION 8

YDP (1)

GM1

W 6-5 vs GWOPS

GM2

W 7-2 vs GWOPS

GM3

na

Another #1 seed claiming the division championship, YDP made quick work of the rest of division 8 going a perfect 4-0 on their way to yet another division title.  Their toughest challenge came in the opening game of the finals, when they found themselves down 5-3 to the GWOPS with under 5 minutes to play.  They were able to rally, tying the game up with just 1 second left on the clock, before winning 5 minutes into overtime.  Game 2 would prove to be a walk in the park.
PLAYOFF MVP

Vic Ma - YDP - 4 gp, 5-2-7

Ma had an outstanding finals, picking up 5 pts in the two games...including the game 1 overtime winner.

DIVISION 10

RAMPAGE (1)

GM1

W 2-1 vs Huskies

GM2

W 7-0 vs Huskies

GM3

na

Ranked #1 going into the playoffs, the Rampage lived up to expectations, needing just 5 games to earn the label of division 10 champs.  But it was by no means a cakewalk.  Their opening game of the playoffs saw them fall behind 2-0 to the Tigers...but three goals in the final 17 minutes, including Cody Wasik's game-winner with just 3 ticks left on the clock, had them off and running.   But the Tigers weren't going easily, bouncing back with a 6-3 win in game 2, setting up another doozy in game 3.  Once again, the Rampage found themselves down 2-0 early.  And once again, they were able to claw back, scoring once before the end of the first half, once in the second half, and completing the comeback two minutes into overtime.  But they weren't done with the dramatics just yet.  Trailing most of the game 1 of the Finals by a 1-0 score, the Rampage finally solved Huskies goaltender, John Bohun, with just 1:52 left in regulation, when Jarrett Tomlinson found the back of the net.  Then...just 37 seconds later, Tomlinson would do it again, turning what looked like defeat into victory.  Game 2 would be all Rampage, as they crushed the Huskies 7-0 to take the series.
PLAYOFF MVP

Jarret Tomlinson - Rampage - 4 gp, 4-1-5

Tomlinson's two goals in the final 2 minutes of game 1 in the finals helped catapult the Rampage to the division title.

DIVISION 11

REGULATORS (1)

GM1

W 6-1 vs Canadians

GM2

W 7-2 vs Canadians

GM3

na

After finding themselves on the brink of elimination...and surviving...the Regulators shifted into cruise-control and took home the division 11 title.  The Regulators kicked off their 2019 playoffs by...getting kicked to the curb, coming out on the wrong end of a 7-4 score at the hands of the Gremlins.  In game two, they came out on fire, jumping out to a 3-0 first half lead...but, with under 8 minutes to play, the Gremlins would begin to erase all of that...scoring three goals in the final seven and a half minutes to force overtime.  Now, with all the momentum snatched away, and facing a possible elimination, the Regulators dug deep and managed to score the overtime goal, forcing a game 3.  They wouldn't lose again, outscoring their opponents 16-4 in the final 3 games.
PLAYOFF MVP

Nate Harmada - Regulators - 3 gp, 7-1-8

Harmada's 5-goal, 6-point performance in the division finals helped seal the championship for the Regulators.

DIVISION 12

EDMONTON CUBS (1)

GM1

W 5-3 vs Edmonton Reapers

GM2

W 5-3 vs Edmonton Reapers

GM3

na

The Cubs finished in the playoffs what they started in the regular season...taking their #1 ranking and reeling off 4-straight victories to claim the division title.  They seemingly had no issues racking up 26 goals for, to just 11 against over the 4 playoff games.
PLAYOFF MVP

Jason Hayes - Edmonton Cubs - 4 gp, 8-5-13

Jason Hayes had an impressive playoff run, accumulating 13 points, including being in on 7 of the teams 10 goals scored in the finals.
